Name: Craig Twehues
Major: education
College Status: Senior at Centre College (Danville, KY)
Craig Twehues, a senior education major at Centre College, wants to be a teacher in order to do something good for the world.
"It's corny, but kids have inspired me to major in education and become a teacher," he says. "I have such a good time when I'm in front of the classroom -- I cannot imagine a career without kids!"
Craig is currently enjoying his student-teaching gig at Mercer County High School, and he can't wait to get his own classroom upon graduation. Being a student-teacher is just like interning, where you can put your professor's preaching into practice in front of an actual class.
Like Chiger, Craig says it's important to go with the flow when choosing a major. He, too, didn't always want to be a teacher; in fact, for the majority of his life, he wanted to be a marine biologist or an oceanographer. Now, marine biology is his hobby.
"Don't worry about knowing what you want to be in high school, or even in college," Craig advises. "Your ideas, beliefs, and opinions about everything in life will change, as well as those thoughts on career choices. Continue to learn and develop throughout college, and a path will open for you."
Craig's overall goal is to make an impact on his students' lives. He wants to be the "cool teacher" who not only teaches, but offers life lessons to his students. In addition, he says, "I want to be a teacher who's not afraid to learn from his students."
