| English as a Second Language (ESL) programs are offered at many institutions throughout the country to help international students and those whose primary language is not English improve their skills in a short period of time. Students usually enter ESL programs when they want to further their academic or professional lives in the United States. Speaking English is essential to succeeding in a country where English is a main language. There may be various sessions that last for a certain amount of weeks, depending on the school. All ESL programs, however, have the same goal: to teach non-native speakers the art of the English language.
